Volunteer at Portland West

English Language Program

Volunteers are needed to tutor adults in speaking, writing, and reading English; assist parents in bringing children to free community events, and help families access community resources.

Hours: M-F, 9-11 am. and 12-2 pm

Alternatives to Detention

Adult volunteers over 18 needed to do direct care for at-risk youth involved in the Criminal Justice System.  Volunteers will be asked to do tutoring, mentoring, and assisting with activities and outings.  Hours of program are 3-7pm Monday through Friday.  Hours may be extended during school vacation and summer time.  Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one day a week.  For more information or to set up a time to come in to fill out an application and an interview, please contact Heather Ivey at 775-0105x137.

Child Development Center

Volunteers are needed to assist 2-5 year olds as they explore traditional pre-school activities. Volunteers are also welcome to share their special skills and talents.

Hours M-F, 8 am-5 pm.

After School Program

Volunteers are needed to tutor and support youth with their homework and educational activities.

Hours: Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri, 3-5 pm, Wed, 2-4 pm.

Resource Lab

Volunteers are needed to assist middle school students, high school students, and adults in homework, tutoring, English conversation practice, resumes, and job searches. 

Hours: M-F 6-8 pm

Youth Building Alternatives (YBA)

Volunteers are needed to support young adults achieve their GED in our dynamic, education program. Volunteers tutor students in math, reading, writing, or help on the construction site.

Hours: M-F, 8 am-2:30 pm.

Community Workshops and Classes

Volunteers are needed to elad and assist workshops and classes that will help people become active and informed members of the community.

Hours: Flexible

Administration

Volunteers are needed to assist staff in administrative duties, such as bulk mailings.
