If you are planning a trip to Portland, Oregon anytime soon but aren’t sure about what type of clothing to bring, you will want to do a little research about its local climate and culture as you probably would if you were visiting any other city in the world that you hadn’t been to.

Portland is a city that, like Seattle farther up the coast, can be damp throughout much of the year with a laid back culture. In Portland, you can pretty much assume that wearing jeans is OK in many places all the time. In the summer months, wearing shorts and flip flops are common. But because of its year round damp climate, here are some items you should definitely consider packing.

You should consider packing a nylon windbreaker with a hood. This is probably the most pratical item to wear on most days because the damp climate consists more of a constant drizzle rather than a big downpour. If the drizzle is heavy, you should have raingear packed such as a rainslick or raincoat. You may also want to consider packing rainboots, or at least waterproof hiking shoes. Lastly, pack an umbrella. You may just need it.More info here: Portland
