tory Club Room

Welcome to the Story Club Room, the new big hit at Portland West! This room was created to extend the capacity of our Learning Center to support the reading and literacy learning needs of children in grades K though 2.

Besides after school, the Story Club Room is used in the evening during our Community Resource Lab as a learning place for children while their parents are taking advantage of tutoring, computer and Internet access, etc. It also serves as a teaching center for parents in our Even Start Family Literacy Program to learn how to become their child's first teacher and a place for one-on-one teaching for our Even Start Early Childhood Specialist and our Even Start children.

The room is fully furnished, has tape recorders, listening centers, headphones, books on tape, and age appropriate learning games.

Special thanks to the Casco Bay Sunrise Rotary Club, Curious City, De Point Fund of the Maine Community Foundation, Lincoln Financial Group Foundation, Lindsey Tweed & Claudia King, and the Rines/Thompson Fund of the Maine Community Foundation for making this room a reality.
